What are the phases of learning and what do we understand about the less comfortable emotional states that come with them? When we choose to learn something, we go out of our comfort zone, the already explored world is left behind and a new one is entered. What makes us become fearful to the point where we become unhappy, refuse tasks or an engagement or even start to revolt.
Especially at Red Hat Consulting, we are expected to move with product innovation. Sometimes a customer project or particular use-case requires you to change what you know about a product or way of working. I have been 100% convinced that something would work but turned out to be wrong or was surprised about an ability that was there.
I also changed my speciality, changed my focus from OpenStack expertise to gaining OpenShift expertise. Letting go of a whole lot of what was learned, leaving the solid ground, going into complex new areas of technical expertise, ways of working but also culture. Made it as a hero in the old and starting out as a fool in the new.
For the people working with the consultant or architect, it can be unexpected. “Wait, I thought I was working with this product superstar. Now I hear complaints and moans, what is happening?” Did we get the right person for this job?
It is all part of learning new things and accepting that the road to success was built on failures. Keep investing, keep a great and caring attitude towards the things you are learning and who you learn it with.

You will make it!
